Medallion Center
Dallas, TX
Located in the heart of East Dallas, just south of Northwest Highway between Skillman Street and Abrams Road, the renovation of Medallion Shopping Center reimagines a long-standing neighborhood destination while honoring its legacy. Spanning approximately 340,000 square feet across 26 acres, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design interventions can breathe new life into established retail environments, creating a renewed sense of discovery for the surrounding community.
The façade transformation began with the removal of the aging mansard roof, replaced by a new parapet extension that elevates tenant signage for greater visibility from the street. The addition of brick veneer introduces a monumental, yet timeless architectural character, with subtle relief patterns adding depth and visual texture while allowing tenant signage to take center stage. Warm, neutral tones were selected to complement the existing stone veneer, preserving continuity within the center’s architectural language.
Additional improvements enhance the pedestrian experience. Slender steel column supports replace bulky column surrounds along the covered walkway, increasing storefront visibility and creating a more open and inviting feel. Renovated pylon signs and decorative light standards with string lights celebrate the main entry, signaling a renewed identity for this East Dallas landmark—home to a unique dual-entry Target anchor, and the site of the first Blockbuster Video store opened in 1985. Completed in 2021, the renovation reflects the enduring evolution of neighborhood retail.
