The ManeGait Campus Expansion is in Full Swing! 🐎

We’re proud to partner with ManeGait on their new administration building, small covered arena, and horse barn—a project set for completion in early 2026.

ManeGait serves over 150 children and adults each week, providing life-changing equine therapy programs for individuals with physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral disabilities. We’re honored to help create spaces that will further their mission. Link in bio for more information on ManeGait's Beacon Project!

Here’s a peek at the progress so far:

1️⃣ Stables Building – The steel frame is up, with reinforcements in place for the CMU stalls.
2️⃣ Cross Tie Area – Our team surveys where horses will one day be tied and saddled.
3️⃣ Small Arena – Constructed earlier this year and ready for use!
4️⃣ Community Room – Framing complete; next up: sheetrock and roofing.

We can’t wait to see this campus come to life.

We had the honor of attending the Preview Party at La Estancia Country Club in Odessa—formerly known as the Mission Country Club. This striking architectural gem, inspired by the grand estancias of Argentina, was built in the early 1980s and is recognized as the final project attributed to O’Neil Ford, as noted in Mary Carolyn Hollers George’s biography O’Neil Ford, Architect. Now thoughtfully reimagined for a new chapter, the space has been beautifully revived—and SSARCO is proud to have played a role in its renovation.

What’s your favorite form of exercise or physical activity, and why?
“Running and hiking are my go-to activities—I love being outside and exploring nature! I’ve completed a few half marathons and plenty of 5Ks and 10Ks. My next goal? A full marathon!”

How would you survive a horror movie?
“Honestly, I wouldn’t…I’m not a fan of horror movies. I’d probably hide in the most obvious spot, thinking it’s too obvious for the killer to check—but somehow, I’d survive!”

What’s the weirdest or funniest food combination you enjoy?
“I dip fries in mayo instead of ketchup. Trust me, it’s surprisingly good!”

What’s one hobby or interest that surprises people when they learn about it?
“I’m a plant lover! If I had enough room in my apartment, I’d have my own greenhouse.”

What is one interesting or unusual fact about yourself that most people don’t know?
💬 “I grew up in Kotor, Montenegro, a UNESCO-protected site nestled in one of the most beautiful fjords in the world. Growing up in such a unique environment deepened my appreciation for history and culture and fueled my love for travel.”

What is one important lesson you’d give to your younger self?
💬 “Embrace patience and resilience. Life’s challenges can feel discouraging, but persistence and adaptability create opportunities even in uncertainty.”

What is one skill or hobby you’ve always wanted to learn?
💬 “I’ve always been fascinated by the psychology of horses and would love to learn how to foster trust-based relationships with these incredible animals.”

What cultural tradition would you like to experience?
💬 “Traditional Indian weddings, with their rich customs, vibrant celebrations, and deep cultural significance, have always captivated me.”

🔍 What is something you recently learned? “I’ve recently taken up pottery. I practice more on the wheel and there are some aspects that I feel I’ve gotten comfortable with and others that I’m still sorting out. I knew this is a difficult skill to attain going into it. What I learned, as cheesy as it is, is that it takes a lot of practice, patience, and self-forgiveness.”

😂 If you could be any fictional character in The Office, who would you choose and why? “I would choose Darryl. He’s hilariously straightforward and gets his job done all while using others’ ignorance as a chance to misinform them of his culture just for fun.”

🎧 What is your favorite way to unwind and relax after a long day? “After a long day, I listen to music to unwind. I love discovering new songs and artists.”

🫢What’s the weirdest or funniest food combination you enjoy eating? “The weirdest has to be Lay’s Limon chips and freshly baked brownies. The sweet and sour flavors really come together, and they are two of my favorite snacks. So, it’s a win-win!”

🎨What is your favorite form of artistic expression? “I’m not sure if there is a technical term for my style of doodling, but I doodle. There’s no planning ahead, no expectations, and no real skill to it. It allows me to take a pause and escape the clutter in my mind and just put pen to paper.”

The new campus at the corner of Avalon and Deauville will house BMW, Cadillac, GMC, and Buick facilities for sales, service, and parts, relocating their current operations from Wall Street and Andrews Highway.
Beyond the dealerships, this development will feature an E.F. Outfitters store and a made-from-scratch restaurant, enhancing the community space.

What do you wish more people knew about you? - While I spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen for work and for fun, I do really enjoy going outside and camping and hiking whenever I get the chance to do so.

Top item on your bucket list? - I would love to visit Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, and specifically, The Wave. Permits to hike through and visit this area are given out by a lottery system that you register for months in advance.

What is your favorite form of artistic expression, and why? - I love painting and the amount of emotions and feeling that can be conveyed through even "simple" pieces. Keith Haring's Unfinished Painting is one of my favorites.

Exciting news! On Monday, we were honored to be part of Tony Aaron and the City of Early’s presentation to the Brown County Commissioners and a packed house of over 100 citizens. The conceptual design we contributed to was showcased for the potential development for the Brown Country #YMCA. A $20M bond offering to fund the project will be put on the ballot in May.

We’ve enjoyed collaborating with Brown County, the City of Early, the YMCA of Abilene, and various stakeholders to get to this point. This is a great project with an incredible team, and we are hopeful to see it through to completion!🙌🏼

Scott Sower: design genius, burger enthusiast, and Gin Rummy player! In part three of our interview, Scott shares his love for a good burger and his favorite weekend tradition. Find out why he thinks 'failing faster' is key to success and his latest audiobook obsession. 

🍔 What is your favorite food?    
I’ve been told I have the palate of a toddler, so meat and potatoes for sure. I am always in search of an excellent burger. There are so many good places in Dallas, but Rodeo Goat, Maple & Motor, and Hudson House are among my favorites.  

🃏 Favorite thing to do on the weekend?   
A mentor suggested that the secret to a happy life was to enjoy the simple things. Mary Fran & I usually walk to the local coffee shop and play Gin Rummy for about an hour. My Papaw and Nanny (mother’s parents) played for years.  I loved watching their games.  Nanny would always say, “A quick call beats a slow Gin,” which translates to our work.  If you wait to get something perfect before you submit it to your team, the Owner, or other stakeholders, you are missing out on input that could help shape the ultimate project significantly better.  Tom Peters, business guru, suggests that you should ‘fail faster’ which will quickly lead you to success.

Currently, I’m in the middle of Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expect, by Will Guidara. The restaurant business is so fickle. It is interesting to hear the lengths that Will and his team will go to craft a memorable customer experience.

🎉 What’s one project you’d still like to tackle?
I’ve really enjoyed how rich the fitness center programs are. While I’ve had the great fortune to work on some remarkable projects like the @moodyfamilyymca, Lakewood Country Club, Northwood Club, and the Cooper Aerobic Center in Craig Ranch, I’d relish the opportunity to be involved in a rec center on a university campus.
🎬 What is your favorite movie?
I really enjoyed Big Fish, a movie about a colorful father whose son thinks he is a liar making up wild stories to cover for the sad and lonely life of a traveling salesman. The movie weaves through the whimsical tales told by the father. At the father’s funeral all the unbelievable characters come to mourn him, and the son comes to the realization that the father, he saw as a weak old liar, was actually a man who had lived his life full of adventure. It reinforces how there are no do-overs; life is so brief. You must do bold and fulfilling things, be present, pursue your purpose, and do meaningful things, make a difference.

Safety first at YMCA Lake Highlands 🙌

Safety is paramount in construction sites and Texas law recognizes that principle. Texas construction workers and contractors are required to adhere to strict safety rules to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. This includes providing workers with appropriate safety equipment such as helmets, gloves, and safety vests. In addition, regular safety training programs should be instituted to educate workers on hazardous materials, equipment operation, and proper protocols for working at heights.

By prioritizing safety in construction sites, contractors and workers can mitigate the risk of injuries and protect the well-being of everyone involved.

🏢 What do you enjoy most about architecture?
I love collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team, working with talented designers, passionate clients, getting to solve a different problem every day, working on complex programs and unreasonable budgets. I love a challenge or being told something can’t be done.

🌉 How were you first introduced to architecture?
My mother programmed me from a very young age. Beyond the standard Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, and Legos, she had me playing with a “Girder & Panel” set by Kenner. It was a box of miniature columns, beams, and curtain wall panels so that you could erect very Miesian skyscrapers. She also got me hooked on photography, arming me with a small plastic camera and rolls of film. Whatever city we were in, I’d walk around and take pictures of architecture that I thought was compelling. I loved the heroic sculptures on the sides and at the entries of the old Art Deco buildings. Union Terminal in Cincinnati was by far my favorite. I was so happy that it got a second life as Cincinnati Museum Center.

💡Glass can absorb, refracts, or transmits light. It adds beauty to a building when used in transparent or translucent applications. Glass transmits up to 80% of available natural daylight.

📸 Honda Rockwall
This Honda prototype facility on I-30 in Rockwall needed to incorporate the owner’s modern ideas with Honda's corporate prototype requirements. The program included a precast concrete tilt-wall structure with 6 car showrooms, closing offices, customer lounge, service advisors, and 32-bay service garage with an exterior ‘green wall’ and ancillary car wash building. The use of glass was used for maximum visual exposure which, although it was North facing, wouldn’t increase the cooling load inside.

📸 Honda Rockwall
This Honda prototype facility on I-30 in Rockwall needed to incorporate the owner’s modern ideas with Honda's corporate prototype requirements. The program included a precast concrete tilt-wall structure with 6 car showrooms, closing offices, customer lounge, service advisors, and 32-bay service garage with an exterior ‘green wall’ and ancillary car wash building. The use of glass was used for maximum visual exposure which, although it was North facing, wouldn’t increase the cooling load inside.

Moody Family YMCA
The Moody Foundation gave the largest gift to any YMCA ever ($7M), to allow for the development of the new Moody Family YMCA. The building sits on 3.4 acres fronting Preston Road just North of Mockingbird Lane in University Park originally donated by the Hoblitzelle Family. The new facility replaced the 28,000sf 1952 structure designed by local beloved and nationally renowned Architect George Dahl – known for Dallas Fair Park. The new 58,500sf facility has a full gymnasium, health & wellness center, group exercise rooms, cycling studio, natatorium with lap & therapy pools, locker rooms, community room, sports fields and an underground parking garage with ~300 parking spaces. The Ashford Rise program fronts Preston Road and includes 6 classrooms, a breakroom, and offices. The landscaping contains drought tolerant plants native to north Texas throughout the site.
